Can lipstick grow molds?

The sustainability of makeup is good. Many of us have that fetish to store a lot of makeup in our vanity. One of the makeup products is a lipstick which fills a vanity with a lot of shades and textures. Storing lipstick for a long time is said to get ruined and grow fungus on them.

Can lipstick grow molds?

Yes, lipstick can grow molds if it comes in contact with moisture. It is suggested to keep the lipsticks in a cool and dry place in monsoons and summers to avoid molds on your lipstick. If your lipstick grows molds do not use them to avoid any kind of infection.

Growing molds in lipstick are very common. Do not store lipsticks for too long and if it has been a long time since you have that lipstick kindly dispose of them. They can cause you adverse reactions.

Lips are a very sensitive part of your body and we can’t take such risks on them. try to use the lipstick completely until they go bad.

Why does lipstick grow molds?

There are several reasons due to which your lipsticks start growing molds. it can be due to your improper storage of lipsticks or the expiration of your lipstick

1. Improper storage of lipstick

The most common reason for your lipstick growing molds is not storing the lipstick in a correct atmosphere. Lipsticks cannot survive in heat and humidity.

This is for all kinds of lipsticks, glosses, tints, everything. Always store your lipsticks in a cool and dry place like a refrigerator during summers or rainy reasons. In winters they can be kept outside as well.

2. Expiration of lipsticks

Lipstick is made with minerals that rot over time.

Any lipstick stored more than its expiration date will grow molds and fungus in them because of the rotten minerals.

However, Molds do not always grow in expired lipstick but they are still harmful. It causes skin irritation and diseases.

 

Can I remove molds from my lipstick and use them?

Scrapping out the molds does not justify that the molds have died; they can grow again. Once the lipsticks start to grow molds the only thing you should do is to throw it as soon as possible. you can’t use lipstick after it starts to grow molds.

Now as you know that the other reason why lipstick can grow molds is them being expired. We are very much ahead to know that expired products should not be used to prevent any kind of infection and damage.

Even if the products seem fresh Do not use expired products.

 

How to take care of your lipsticks for longer use?

  1. Storing your lipstick in a cool and dry place like a refrigerator so that your lipstick does not meltdown and go bad. This way your lipstick will have a longer shelf life. Lipsticks should be stored away from heat, sunlight, or humidity.
  2. Placing the lip crayon in the freezer for a few minutes before applying will give your lip crayon a long-lasting effect.
  3. Whenever you take your lipsticks with you in a car or for parties try to bring back the lipsticks and do not leave them in the car as the heat for the car will destroy your lipstick.
  4. Even if you do not use your lipsticks, warm them up on your palm by rubbing them. it will help your lipsticks from drying.

What makes your lipstick degrade?

1. Sunlight

Note that direct sunlight and heat is the biggest threat to your lipsticks. It evaporates important minerals and ingredients from the lipstick. Keep them in the refrigerator.

2. Germs

Do not leave your lipstick open or share it with anyone else this transfers the germs into the lipstick eventually being transferred to the lips.
